In Rotation: The Kozmic Kicks - Love

Phil Collins - August 30, 2018

Love album cover

The Kozmic Kicks bring eight songs of rumbling, boisterous party music on Love. These are old school rock and roll jams to be sung out of an open sunroof. The band sticks pretty close to the name of the album's main theme - love - through the tracklist. The best songs here are the ones that go the hardest in the chorus - "Too Poor" and "Hippie Grenade". The former goes full throttle with a catchy melody, gang vocals and the most Danzig-y vocal delivery on the album. "Hippie Grenade" spells out the name of the song in the chorus with enough conviction to get you to do it, too.

Get ready for riffs, get ready for rock and roll, and get ready for a lot of it. The last song, "We Want More," could have been just as good a title track for the album. Love indulges in the tropes of a bygone rock and roll era and at the end of the day it asks for more. This stands up well with some recent rock and roll releases from fellow Chicago bands Criminal Kids, Poison Boys and Black Bear Rodeo.
