In Rotation: Dirty Junk - On Yr Knees

Phil Collins - January 23, 2019

On Yr Knees cover

Minneapolis grunge punk duo (and friends of CTR) Dirty Junk released their new EP this month through our brother organization, Don't Panic Records and Distro. Music friends are great, and so are these songs. They're crunchy, heavy and confident. Renn Fontana's vocals pitch and roll off the chunking guitar and drums. "Sinker Swim" and title track "On Yr Knees" most closely match that description and they are my favorite tracks here. "Sinker Swim" is a dark track that hinges on the line "I've never been a floater and I won't start until I drown". The title track hits with unrelenting guitar blasts and sharp vocal delivery. Vocals in the third verse from drummer Ace Robbins are the knockout punch.

"Ten Thousand" offers a charging opening to the EP while "Gold Plates" closes it with a hypnotic melody. "Buy Life" questions society's reckless complacence in injustice. On Yr Knees follows last year's full-length, Snot. On Yr Knees is out on a limited run of 100 translucent purple cassettes. Check that out at Don't Panic's Bandcamp page.

Dirty Junk plays Trash Catties' EP release show on March 1 at the Hexagon Bar in Minneapolis. The Curtain and The Great Went also play that show. More info on that show here. Stream On Yr Knees below.
